After a busy first term at school, everyone is looking forward to taking a week’s break and recharging the batteries. If you’re looking for inspiration on ways to fill next week’s calendar, here’s 7 things to do in Donegal with the kids this mid-term:

1. Halloween Festival and Parade

If the kids love to dress up and play games, check out Letterkenny Halloween Fest. Taking place on Wednesday 31st October from 12.30 – 5pm in the Market Square, Halloween Fest will entertain the whole family with games, competitions, face-painting and a festival parade. After a busy day having fun with the whole family, refuel in Dillon’s Hotel, which is located on Letterkenny’s main street. If you’ve got teenagers and want to experience a night time event, take a trip into Derry – they’ve pulled out all the stops for Halloween and the fireworks display is quite literally out of this world.

2. Catch A Movie

It can be hard to get all the family together, so this mid-term, make time for lots of fun things. A trip to the cinema to catch the latest children’s movie can be a great day out. Century Letterkenny’s 8-sceen movie theatre is perfect for children and teenagers and if you’ve got little ones, Century Play is located there too.

3. Autumn Walks

Autumn is a wonderful time of year in Donegal. Expect crisp Autumn leaves and cold dry air – and maybe the odd shower of rain! Close to Letterkenny you’ll find loads of walkways, paths and hidden forests; this mid-term check out Ramelton’s woods and walkways (pictured), Ards Forest Park or Glenveagh National Park, all located within 20 minutes of Letterkenny.

Quiddich
4. Harry Potter Hogwarts’ Express Experience

If you’ve got Harry Potter fans in the house, check out the Harry Potter Hogwarts’ Express Experience at Oakfield Park, Raphoe which runs from 12 – 6pm on Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th and Monday 29th October. Set on 100-acres of manicured parkland, the venue will be transformed into a world of witchcraft and wizardry. There will be Harry Potter themed candies, Butter Beer, movies, arts and crafts, a real game of Quidditch and you’ll also get to meet some famous characters from the movies.

Arena 7
5. Tots to Teens

It’s hard to keep everyone in the family happy, especially if you’ve got small kids and teenagers in the same house. The easiest option is to merge the two! Arena 7 is a great venue for tots and teens. Tots love the soft play centre, children love Laser World, teens love the slot machines and pool table and the whole family can get involved in a game of bowling. Letterkenny Activity Centre, just a few miles from Letterkenny is ideal for families who love an adrenalin rush – they’ve got high-ropes, archery, footgolf, karting and much more.
